no recharge on jio

If i don’t recharge jio what will happen?

If your Jio prepaid plan validity expires and you don’t recharge, your mobile services will be affected in stages. Here’s a clear breakdown of what typically happens based on Reliance Jio’s policies and TRAI guidelines.

1. Immediately After Plan Expiry

  • Outgoing services stop: You cannot make calls, send SMS, or use mobile data.
  • Incoming services: You may still receive incoming calls and SMS (including important OTPs for banking, apps, etc.) for a limited time. This grace for incoming calls often lasts a few days to a few weeks, depending on your last plan. However, it is not guaranteed for the full period.

Without any active recharge, you won’t be able to use voice, data, or SMS services fully.

2. The 90-Day Non-Usage Period

  • Jio allows your number to remain in a semi-active state for up to 90 days from the date of plan expiry or last usage (no voice/video calls, outgoing SMS, data, or value-added services).
  • During this window, incoming calls and SMS might continue in many cases, especially if the SIM stays inserted in a phone and registers on the network. Many users report receiving OTPs and calls even after months, but this is not officially guaranteed beyond the initial grace.
  • If your main account balance is above ₹20 at the end of 90 days of inactivity, Jio’s Automatic Number Retention Scheme kicks in: ₹20 is deducted automatically, and the non-usage period extends by another 30 days. This repeats until the balance drops below ₹20.

Important: This 90-day rule is based on non-usage, not just lack of recharge. Simply keeping the SIM in your phone without any activity counts toward inactivity.

3. After 90 Days: Deactivation

  • Once the 90-day (or extended) period ends and balance is insufficient, your number gets deactivated.
  • All services, including incoming calls and SMS, stop completely.
  • You have a 15-day grace period to reactivate the number by recharging (usually a minimum recharge plus a ₹20 reactivation fee may apply in some cases).

4. Permanent Disconnection

  • If you don’t reactivate within those 15 days after deactivation, the number is permanently disconnected.
  • Jio may reallocate the number to a new user. Once reassigned, recovering your old number becomes extremely difficult or impossible.

Tips to Avoid Losing Your Jio Number

  • Recharge before the 90-day mark to keep services uninterrupted.
  • For secondary numbers (used only for OTPs), consider low-cost recharges (like ₹11–₹20 validity extension packs if available) every 2–3 months to reset the inactivity timer.
  • Always keep the SIM inserted and powered on occasionally to show network activity.
  • Check your plan status regularly via the MyJio app, *333# , or Jio website.
  • No penalty for late recharge — the new plan validity simply starts from the recharge date.

Note: Policies can vary slightly based on your circle, account balance, and updates from TRAI or Jio. For the most accurate status of your number, use the MyJio app, dial 199 or 1800-889-9999 (Jio customer care), or visit a Jio store. Rules mentioned here are as per Jio’s official regulatory terms and recent user/TRAI-aligned reports.

Losing a mobile number can disrupt banking, Aadhaar, and other services linked to it, so it’s best to recharge periodically even if you use the number sparingly.
